On a normal weekday the doors open at 10:00 AM and stay open until 8:30 PM. Saturday starts half an hour earlier, at 9:30 AM, but the store closes at 7:00 PM. Sunday is the shortest day of the week, running 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
If you hold an Executive membership you can get in at 9:00 AM any day of the week at most warehouses. That first hour is genuinely the best time to shop. The aisles are clear, the samples have just been set up and you can be through a checkout in a couple of minutes instead of twenty.
Costco has never run a 24-hour warehouse and has no plans to. Shorter reduced hours mean fewer staff shifts and lower overheads, which is part of how the membership model keeps prices where they are. The gas station is the only part of the site that opens early and closes late.
One caveat worth repeating. Individual warehouses shift their times by fifteen or thirty minutes depending on local trading rules, mall lease terms and how busy the site gets. Treat the table above as the national pattern, not a promise about your specific store.
Costco Holiday Hours
Costco is unusual among big retailers. Instead of trading reduced hours on a holiday it closes the whole warehouse for the day, and it does that seven times a year: New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Two more dates are worth putting in your calendar. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are regular shopping days, but most warehouses pull the closing time forward to about 5:00 PM. Turn up at 6:00 PM expecting a normal evening and you will be looking at a locked door.

Executive Member Early Access
Executive members can shop from 9:00 AM, an hour before Gold Star and Business members. Costco added this perk to make the higher tier worth the extra fee, and it is the single most useful thing about it if you shop on weekends.
The catch is that early access is set warehouse by warehouse rather than nationally, so two stores in the same city can handle it differently. Some locations also protect a quiet shopping window for older members. Ask at the membership desk or check your warehouse page for the current arrangement.
Costco Hours by Department
The counters inside the building do not all run on the warehouse schedule, and this is where most wasted trips happen.

The Best and Worst Times to Shop
The first hour after opening on a weekday is the quietest slot of the week. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are calmer still. If you want a full parking lot and a line at every checkout, arrive on Saturday afternoon or on the Sunday before a holiday.
The last hour before closing is a mixed bag. It is quiet, but fresh bakery and rotisserie stock is often gone and the food court may have already stopped serving. Weekday evenings after 7:00 PM are the sweet spot if mornings do not work for you.
